Introduction

What makes a dwelling sustainable?
A brief answer would be: The sensible and most efficient use of our resources with the focus on the negative effect of Carbon emissions (CO2) and the limited supply of fossil fuels (oil and gas) and of potable water. In the light of rising prime energy costs, sustainable housing makes also economically sense.

Let’s have a look how our resources are being used in conjunction with housing:
1. Heating and Cooling
2. Water and Hot water
3. Electricity
4. Building materials
5. Transport
